    Compiled News From Serebii.net

I will be posting the latest news on Pokemon HG/SS
    Stay tuned for the updates.

Update 1)Little is known about the upcoming Pokémon Heart Gold & Pokémon Soul Silver games. At the moment, all we know is that they are remakes of the original Gold & Silver games, set in the Johto region and coming out for the DS in Autumn/Fall of 2009.

As these games are remakes of Gold & Silver, they will feature both Johto & Kanto and follow the storyline of you as a new trainer, going through the gyms of Johto and Kanto, and winding up needing to thwart a Team Rocket plot to takeover the world with their Pokémon.

Even though it will follow closely on the basics of Pokémon Gold & Silver, there are a variety of new features brought into these remakes. Firstly, all the game mechanics are brought up to the 4th generation standards. Second, one of the major new features is that you can have any Pokémon follow you in the games. This way, you can truely personalise your experience.

In addition to the areas previously in Johto, there are new areas to be found within Johto. In addition to that, there are non-Johto Pokémon to be found in it including Kyogre in Heart Gold, Groudon in Soul Silver, Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia & Giratina.

Heart Gold & Soul Silver is also packaged with a new peripheral; PokéWalker, which will allow you to transfer a Pokémon to it to train it up as you walk around your normal life.

More info is expected to come soon so be sure to check back here often.

    PARTNER POKEMON

In Pokémon Yellow, a new feature was introduced which had your starter
Pokémon, Pikachu, follow you around. Pikachu was always behind you and
you could always check it to see its happiness. This feature later
returned in Amity Square in Diamond, Pearl & Platinum, with a limit
to 20 Pokémon. In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, you once again get a
partner Pokémon. However, it is not limited to your starter Pokémon.

In Heart Gold & Soul Silver, as soon as you get your Pokémon, Professor Elm will say that your Pokémon can come out and walk along with you. Originally, this would seem to follow the precedent set with Pokémon Yellow, however every single Pokémon can be
sent out to follow you. From Bulbasaur to Arceus, you can have any of
your favourites follow you. To do this, all it seems you need to do is
have the Pokémon at the top of your team and it shall be sent out.

    Interaction

Like with Pikachu in Pokémon Yellow, you have the ability to interact with your Pokémon. If you turn around and face your Pokémon, simply press A and you will get to see the mood of your Pokémon. Whether it's happy with you, apathetic or is in trouble due to low health or a status condition. This will allow you to be able to quickly guage how your Pokémon is doing.

    Items

As with when you take your Pokémon out for a stroll in Amity Square in Diamond, Pearl & Platinum, when you are out with your Pokémon in this game, your Pokémon will sometimes find items. These items include Berries and Accessories for your Pokémon. It is unknown if there's just a set list for the Pokémon to get or if each Pokémon has a unique list of obtainable accessories.

    e=7]

The Safari ZoneIn the original games, Gold & Silver, when
the player got to Fuchsia City, they would discover that the Safari
Zone Warden has moved and so the Safari Zone there has moved. In Heart
Gold & Soul Silver, we have found where the Safari Zone has moved
to , it is now in the new area found west of Cianwood.

The Safari Zone works in a similar manner to the
previous Safari Zones with you being given 30 Safari Balls and sent
into the Safari Zone with only a limited amount of steps. There are six
areas in the Safari Zone and they all hold different kinds of Pokémon
so you need to explore if you wish to get them all. However, the Johto
Safari Zone has a distinct difference.

    Customization
This new Safari Zone allows you to customize
the areas. The customization allows you to move where all six of the
areas of the Safari Zone are. This is useful so you don't have to walk
and waste a load of steps should you wish to find a Pokémon that is
only in the Desert area. All you do is slide the areas around using the
touch screen. All the areas have exits at the same place so there are
no combination that you cannot do. There are 720 permutations so you
    can be unique and creative

PokéWalker is a new bit of hardware which is
said to be bundled in with Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver. This
bit of hardware is special in that it will allow you to transfer one
Pokémon from your HeartGold & Soul Silver games onto PokéWalker. As
PokéWalker is a pedometre, when you walk about, your Pokémon will
slowly raise level and happiness. This will allow you to raise your
Pokémon as you go about your daily lives.

    However, that is
not all. As you play on your PokéWalker, you will occassionally come
across mini-games of sorts. These mini-games will also have an effect
on your Heart Gold & Soul Silver games. One includes finding of
items while you're walking. These include items such as Potions. You
will also sometimes come across wild Pokémon while you play.

    Sending Pokémon to PokéWalker

    To
send Pokémon over to PokéWalker, you have to open a specific menu
in-game. The location of this menu is currently unknown. In this menu,
you can select Pokémon from boxes and send them over to PokéWalker. It
appears that there are three slots for the Pokémon in PokéWalker.
    In
communication with PokéWalker, you can keep track of certain variables
from it including how many steps you have taken and how many watts you
have built up. When you build up more Watts, you can access more areas.

    Battling Pokémon

    To
battle Pokémon on PokéWalker, you have to use the PokéRadar item which
will only work if you have built up enough Watts, in this case; 10
Watts. Here, it will give you four pieces of grass. You have to select
one and a Pokémon may come out. Once the Pokémon comes out, battling
happens. This battle system is not as advance as the ones in-game but
features two options; Attack or Dodge. This allows you to attack your
Pokémon and protect your one from being attacked.

Details on the Pokémon in each area will come on the game's release.

    Capturing Pokémon

    Just
like in the main games, you also have the ability to capture the
Pokémon you will battle in the game. This is done the same way as
before by weakening them and then throwing a Pokéball. Once these
Pokémon have been captured, you have the ability to send them back over
to Heart Gold or Soul Silver and will have PokéWalker as their
location. You can capture up to 3 Pokémon in each PokéWalker session.

    Itemfinder

    As
well as battling & capturing Pokémon, there is also an itemfinder
feature within PokéWalker, accessible for 3 Watts a go. This feature
will give you six bits of grass for you to select. Once you have
selected a bit of grass, you may have found yourself an item. There are
many rare and wonderful items to be found in each area so it is always
good to check the itemfinder to get the items. You can store up to 10
items on PokéWalker at any one time..

    PokéWalker Communication

    If
while you have PokéWalker out with you, you meet a friend who also has
theirs, you will have the ability to communicate between both
PokéWalker via the InfraRed port on the unit. If you do this, you will
be able to give your friend one of the items you have obtained and they
will be able to do the same. These gifts will certainly help if your
friend has unlocked a PokéWalker area which you haven't.

    PokéWalker Diary

    To
top that off, when you return your Pokémon to Heart Gold or Soul
Silver, the goings on of your Pokémon will be added to your PokéWalker
Diary in the game. This will tell you if you capture any Pokémon, meet
any other characters or find items.

    The
PokéGear item makes its return from Gold, Silver & Crystal into
these games. The PokéGear has not changed function within the
transition from the GameBoy Color to the Nintendo DS, but the features
within it have all had an enhancement included, mostly through use of
the DS's touch screen. The features of the PokéGear are as follows

    The Phone
The main feature of the PokéGear is the phone.
The phone is used just as you would think and can call a variety of
characters within the game. These characters include trainers dotted
around Johto as well as vital characters in the story such as your Mom
    or Professor Elm.
With the phone, you can both call-up and receive
calls from these characters. They will give you vital information when
you call. We shall provide a list of them when the game is released.
    The Map Card
The map card works exactly as before and
provides a map of Johto. This map is fully interactive and will allow
you to zoom in to the various areas. When you hover over the areas,
details of that specific area as well as a smaller map of the actual
area, will appear on the touch screen. This will allow you to get a
good idea of where everything is in the area.

In addition to that, there are some new features
added to the map card. Firstly, you can make notes about each area
about the Pokémon in the area, any Apricorn or Berry trees, any special
buildings, any Technical Machine placement or any other note that you
wish. These notes will appear on the top screen when you highlight that
specific area on the map. In addition to that, you also have the
ability to track the current locations of the roaming Pokémon; Entei
    & Raikou.

    The Radio Card
The radio also makes a return in Heart Gold
& Soul Silver. This feature allows you to listen to the radio
stations within the game being broadcast from Goldenrod's Radio Tower.
This provides different music for you to listen to as you play and will
also give you tips and interviews of in-game characters on the top
screen if you are still in the PokéGear menu.

Unlike the radio in Gold, Silver & Crystal, this
radio appears to have a different way of tuning into the station. The
exact way is not known as of yet but will be added as soon as we know.

    The
Japanese variety show; Pokémon Sunday has just aired and has revealed a
variety of things about Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver.
Specifically, it focused upon the details that were previously known
about the game, but did provide some new details. First theyconfirmed
the female trainer's default name, and the name used for her when you
play as the male trainer is Kotone (コトネ). They also hint that the
special Pikachu in the Yellow Forest PokéWalker course knows Fly.
They also revealed new Pokéthlon events. The first is Catch Saucer and involves you controlling your Pokémon against your opponent to try and grab flying objects being shot across the screens.
The second is called Steel Flag and features you controlling your Pokémon around a course trying to get as many pegs as possible.

    A new scan
has come up on japanese imageboards which seems to indicate that the
legendary birds; Articuno, Zapdos & Moltres are to be placed in the
Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver. It does not say where they are in
the games nor what level they will be at. However, as soon as that
information comes, I shall post it here so be sure to check back during
    our coverage next weekend.
    Today, a new trailer
aired in Japan which revealed a few more little tidbits of information.
In this trailer, very few new details were given, however it did seem
to show that Headbuttable trees do in fact make a return. Form what it
seems, any tree is headbuttable. It is unknown if they all give
Pokémon. It also showed that Munchlax is available in a PokéWalker
    course.
    Earlier today, the
official site updated with a variety of new pictures. However, in
addition to this, it also confirms the return of the Global Trade Station and the WiFi Plaza,
matching the ones in Platinum completely. In addition to this, it also
confirms that the Battle Frontier recently revealed to be in Johto is
identical to the one in Pokémon Platinum. It is unknown if the Frontier
    Brains are the same.
